A pair of hoop earrings based on originals from ancient Persia.

This jewellery is based on a pair of hoop earrings which are over 2,000 years old (200BC-200AD). They originate from Susa (an ancient city of the Elamite, Persian and Parthian empires of Iran), and were found in archaeological strata dating back to the period of the Parthian Empire.

To shape this elegantly simple earring, the goldsmith would have rolled a fine leaf of gold on a core made of pitch - a malleable material found in its natural state. This classic technique of the Ancient Orient made it possible to economise on the precious metal.

Ideal as a gift, this reproduction jewellery is crafted from brass with a gold finish.
