Toy basket, bin and box designs for every playful space

There is no single home decor element that holds as much magic, creativity, memory-making and fun-to-come as a childrens toy box. There is also no other item that is emptied multiple times each day by one or more toddlers!

We understand that not every home has a dedicated playroom, and that even when they do, toys still find their way everywhere. We’ve put together a collection of toy storage options to suit homes of every size, different types of toys, personal design preferences and children of all ages.

Tips for organizing kids storage bins

It’s important to consider how your child will actually use a toy basket when deciding how many you’ll need and what to include in each. Some tips to help you get started include…

Group like things together

Before you start adding things to toy storage baskets, you’ll first need a solid understanding of how much of a given item you’ll need to store. Start with broad categories to make it easy to grab items from around the house, considering categories like soft toys, wooden toys, dolls and play figures, video game equipment, children's storybooks, arts and crafts supplies and metal toys.

Decide between a large childrens toy box or small toy storage baskets

If your children are older or don’t have many traditional toys, keeping everything together in one toy box may make the most sense. You won’t be planning extra space for new toys to come, and they’ll always know exactly where everything is, from their game controller to their baseball mitt.

However, if sorting has shown that there are many distinct types of toys—or groups of items that make sense to store together—bin storage for toys may make more sense for your family.

For example, let’s assume your largest pile is arts and crafts supplies, and you have two children who like to do crafts together. Your youngest child is most interested in coloring books and drawing, and your older child likes to create things from modeling dough, wooden sticks and clay. In this scenario, instead of lumping all the supplies into one toy basket, you can make craft time easier by giving each child a toy basket with just their items. Given its lighter weight, it will also be easier to carry to wherever they’d like to get creative, from the kitchen table to the front porch!
